Southwest Florida Agencies to host Disability & Employment Event

Several Southwest Florida social service agencies are hosting a Disability Mentoring Day event on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Employers and job-seekers are invited to the event.

PRLog (Press Release) – Oct 18, 2010 – October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, part of the United States’ governments’ efforts to educate the American public about the contributions of employers with disabilities in the workplace. In honor of this occasion, several local agencies are contributing to a Disability Mentoring Day at the Career and Service Center in Fort Myers.

A schedule of events is located online at http://www.goodwillswfl.org.

On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, area employers are welcomed to an ADA breakfast and workshop, with a focus on incorporating persons with disabilities into the workplace. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

That same afternoon, job seekers are invited to an afternoon event which will cover employment search skills, ADA rights, and information on the AmeriCorps volunteer program. No registration is required for the job-seekers event, which begins at 1:00 p.m.

Both events will be held at the Career and Service Center, 4150 Ford Street Extension, Fort Myers.

The Disability Mentoring Day event is presented by several agencies, including the Able Trust, Americorps, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Career Connect, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, and Volunteer Florida.
